A viral video of a young boy crying and upset as his grandfather said goodbye to him truly touched people’s hearts.
Parker Matthews, then 15 months old, was seen in a June 2012 video playing happily with his grandfather, Elbert Matthews, on the couch. The two appeared to be very close and to have a special bond.

“OK, I’m going to leave now,” the grandfather said at the start. Parker actually understood what that meant right away. He jumped off the sofa and dashed to the door, knowing his grandfather was on his way. The boy requested to be picked up as the old man walked away. He kept lingering on his grandfather for as long as he could.

Parker began screaming and crying as soon as he realized his grandfather had to leave.

Elbert had to hand him over to his father to calm him down. According to the old man’s reaction, he did not want to go either, but he had no other choice.

When his grandfather left the house, the toddler jumped down from his father’s lap and ran straight to the door. He looked through the glass window, crying, as his grandfather went away.
Parker’s mother, Laura Matthews Newkirk, offered to play with him and said, “It’s okay, Parker, he’ll be back,” but the boy only turned around for a few seconds before returning to peering out the door, hoping that his grandfather would return.

Parker never did that with anyone else, proving that his love and attachment for Elbert were distinctive.

Parker’s mother captured the sad yet sweet moment of the little 15-month-old toddler who cared deeply for his grandfather and later shared it on the internet, where it received so many lovely comments because Parker’s reaction completely stole their hearts.
